In January 2011, fifteen Dar al-Rahman students established a student organization dedicated to supporting their school through school fundraisers and other important projects.  Three years later, their Student Council is flourishing as it expands its lunchtime snack shop to include a new and delectable treat: fresh-popped, delicious popcorn.

“For several years, we’ve sold chocolates, chips, juice, ice cream, and a range of other delicious snacks, all to raise money for future projects,” commented one Student Council member.  “Now, we’ve used that money to purchase a popcorn machine and make delicious, hot popcorn to help raise money for our school while providing a great snack for other students.”

That spirit was evident on Saturday, November 9, as Student Council members completed their first batch of popcorn and distributed it to enthusiastic customers.  “This is simply a small addition to our snack shop,” remarked a Student Council leader, “but it’s one achievement in many small, underlying accomplishments that have improved our school.  Take our school website, for example.”  He was referring to Dar al-Rahman’s website, email, and social media accounts, which are all managed by members of the Student Council.

In the coming months, the Student Council will continue to expand and demonstrate commitment to its school.  We’ll continue to keep you updated as the Student Council begins new projects in the weeks to come.
