On Saturday, December 1, the DAR Student Council announced a change in the Student Council presidential election process. In a brief address to several DAR classes, the election monitor announced that entry forms would no longer be needed for entry into the race. Interested students, he said, need only inform him of their participation and satisfy a simple age requirement, and they will be permitted to participate.
Two candidates immediately informed him of their intent to participate. One of those two is an incumbent seeking reelection; the other is a young student from Ms. Silvana’s class. Candidates can still inform the monitor of their participation, but must do so by January 5 in order to be on the ballot.
Meanwhile, the Student Council is preparing for an exciting election season. The DARSC website manager has reached out to the candidates, asking them to submit short articles to daralrahman.org explaining their qualifications and plans for the Student Council’s future.
A calendar for the process has also been laid out. Ballots will be cast on Saturday, January 12. Results will be announced the following Saturday, which will be followed by four-week transition period. On Saturday, February 2, the elected president – along with the new Student Council – will begin his/her year-long term.
