DARSC executives discuss Presidential election organization plan

The DARSC Vice President today completed a draft of a proposal, entitled “Plan for Dar al-Rahman Student Council Presidential Election Reform,” which aims to organize and regulate the Student Council’s Presidential election procedure.  The plan will go before the Council for a vote in the fall, according to the plan’s author.

“This is the first step we’re taking to further democratize our election system,” said the Vice President and the plan’s author.  “It’ll help regulate and organize our system while keeping some unqualified candidates out of the race.  We’ll have a final draft of the plan out in autumn.”  He declined to discuss the plan further.

The plan’s purpose is to “enact proper organization and election reform beginning in the 2013 Presidential election, in a more general effort to support a more democratic system while increasing organizational effectiveness and productivity.”

The plan still appears to be in the stages of pre-Council vote preparation.  The DARSC VP said that he “just sent the election proposal to the President for review. Can’t say very much about the details until the fall.”  The tweet appears to add to a shroud of secrecy surrounding the plan.

The plan’s author intends to release full copies of the plan to certain DAR Student Council members before the fall, and expects full copies to become available if the plan is approved.  “Part of the plan requires for the rules to be provided to all prospective candidates,” he said.  “I’m quite optimistic about the progress we can make through this plan.”
