DAR concluded the 2011-2012 school year with its Annual Awards Assembly Sunday, with students from all four DAR branches meeting for the year’s most exciting DAR event. Dozens of students performed presentations and songs before an audience of dozens of parents, relatives, and guests.
The Assembly began with an address from the school principal. Following the principal’s opening, a guest speaker delivered an informative speech concerning contribution and the importance of education.
Several classes performed after this opening collection of speeches, beginning with Ms. Samia’s class and continuing to present younger classes. All students were presented with a trophy and a certificate recognizing their completion of the school year. Students stood before the crowd of excited parents as pictures were taken and smiles given.
The DARSC also played an important part in this year’s event, with the Student Council’s Vice President speaking before the assembly of parents for the first time since the school’s founding. He challenged the audience to contribute to the school’s progress, calling it “a light of knowledge” and concluding with a challenge and a request: “Together we must work, together we must all pitch in. Will you invest your time, and effort, and money, in one of the greatest attempts of this school?”
The Assembly featured many changes and additions to the ceremony that has become a tradition. This year, for the first time in recent school history, a short play took place on stage. The play depicted a parent speaking to her child before bedtime, and captured the audience’s attention from the start.
The Awards concluded with a large potluck featuring rice, pizza, and other delicious foods and drinks. As the Awards ended, the summer term of DAR began. You can see more on that here.
